A Little Help

Since we were gone for four days, I did four loads of laundry this morning. While it is true that all I do is sort, open the washer, add laundry detergent and push a button, it is still housework. It is time consuming and not the way I would want to spend a Saturday morning. Once that was done, it was time to go out and restock the refrigerator. We spent the rest of the morning at the Navy Commissary buying essentials such as milk, bread, and juice.

Whenever any of my other sisters who reside in the Philippines complain about how busy they are, I point out that they are still very lucky since they have household help. Over the years, I have gotten used to being a "domestic goddess." It helps that my husband pitches in and he is as anal as I am about cleanliness. More than one marriage has fallen apart due to the other half being unable to deal with the other one's mess.

There are companies who provide the services of someone who goes to your house and does the cleaning twice a week. However, we hate having a stranger in the house when we are away. In addition to the cost, there are always security issues. Having someone come in when we are there sort of defeats the purpose. I would probably follow her around checking to see if she did things the way I want them. I guess that means I am doing the laundry next Saturday.
