Bucket List

Some people have a list of things they want to experience before they "kick the bucket". I am always in awe when that list includes jumping off a plane. Not for me, not even in my dreams. That is for those who like the adrenaline rush, I would rather that my feet remain firmly on the ground. This, despite the fact that I was a flight attendant for a while. You see, on those Boeing 747s, aside from the engine noise, you barely know you are over 10,000 feet above the ground.

We have never been to Magic Mountain, that would be a total waste of money. I once rode a rollercoaster, it was never to be repeated. I felt like throwing up a good solid hour after I got off. This was more than 20 years ago at Ocean Park in Hongkong where the said ride is situated on the edge of the mountain. I did not know any better. I did have a lapse in judgement about 5 years ago. We were at Disney's California Adventures and I insisted that we take the "Tower of Terror". I was thinking....let me rephrase that... I was not thinking. To add insult to injury, they take snapshots of you while you are dropping a few hundred feet. I was looking for ours after the ride when the woman beside me pointed at something and exclaimed, "She looks like she is in labor!" I tapped her on the shoulder and said "That would be me." We did not purchase it.

I am a little braver when it involves water. I love waterparks, I can do slides specially those that are enclosed and there is no danger of my falling off the edge. I always figure that the water will cushion any blow even if it is only two-feet deep. I drive over the Coronado bridge almost everyday. I am fine most of the time but there are days when I am on the outermost lane and it seems just too easy to hit the wall and go over. My knees go weak. I have this running conversation with my son on whether or not we would have better chances of survival if we had the windows rolled up or down as we fall into the water.

I have never really thought about what I would include in my bucket list. I have been fortunate enough to see a lot of the world but I would certainly love to see more. Travel would be at the top of the list. I have not been to Niagara Falls or the Great Wall of China so perhaps those. But then again, I would love to go back to see the Eiffel Tower or Buckingham Palace, this time with "my boys" in tow.

I have gone river rafting once and the experience was great, I would love to do that one more time, again with my boys. I once rode the luge in Rotorua, would not mind doing that with Henry and Jason. I would certainly love to accompany them to site of the highest train station in Europe, Jungfraujoch, where this time I would be smarter and actually bring a coat. We have also never taken a cruise together, we aim to start off with a very short one this Christmas vacation since I do not want to gain 20 pounds over the holidays. I can see now that my list would include them in each and every activity and you are right in thinking that bungee jumping would not make it on that list.

  1. First, instructions on the event of death and now, a bucket list? Why?
