Growing up, I was used to instant coffee. We never thought anything of having coffee at a young age, I remember drinking even in elementary. Since my first job required that I was up at ungodly hours of the day, I soon began to drink more. It came to a point that the caffeine would not even kick in. I would drink anything that faintly resembled coffee even if it tasted like mud since I have never been a sugar-and-milk type of person. Then came the advent of Starbucks and how fashionable it was to spend time in coffeehouses. I learned to love French Vanilla, Swiss Almond, Cafe Mochas to name a few. Coffee became an expensive habit albeit an enjoyable one.
I have had a one-cup coffee maker for the longest time which I thought was just swell until I went on a business trip and saw a Keurig brewing system in the break room. I started lusting after one and dropped hints here and there. At that time, the Mini Personal Brewers were not very popular and therefore quite pricey. My husband refused to budge. There was the "it is more cost-effective than dropping a couple of dollars at Starbucks each day" to "look at the selection of the different kinds I can choose from!" Fast forward to a couple of years later and K-Cups started to be sold in grocery stores.
I am now happy to say that the best coffeehouse in the neighborhood is my kitchen and I do not even have to tip!
