Having a Great Credit Card Company Fraud Center

I received a call from my credit card company about an hour ago. It was the fraud department and they wanted to find out if I was the one who made a transaction to the American Cancer Society for $50.00. They had automatically denied it. Now, much as I would like to claim the generous donation as something I had done out of the kindness of my heart, it was something which I did not do. As a result, they canceled my credit card and are reissuing a new one.

This is not the first time, and I am sure this will not be the last time this will happen. Despite the fact that I do have internet security software, there are too many ways that someone can obtain information if they are determined. I try to be extra careful by making sure that the sites that require information start off with https:// as opposed to just http://. I also try not to let my credit card out of my sight since it is easy for someone to lift the 3-digit code from the back.

I am amazed though that my credit card company is able to discern between a valid transaction and a fraudulent one specially in this case since it was not a huge sum. The most inconvenience I will have is not being able to use my credit card until I receive the new one. That is not so bad for peace of mind.
