Win Some, Lose Some
We went bowling this morning. My friends can attest to the fact that I love to bowl. I used to drag them to the bowling lanes in Telford Gardens on the rare occasions we were in Hongkong together. When I had a few days off in Cebu, it was my younger sister I would drag to Gaisano Country Mall. You would think that I would be very good at it but no, it is one of the few things that I enjoy doing even though I do not really excel at it. Growing up, I have good memories of my whole family bowling at a place in Guadalupe. I am not sure of the name, I believe it was Cavans??? In college, my good friend and I would sometimes skip a class to go bowling, not that I advise anyone to do the same.
My son has had a few bowling parties growing up. It is one of the most enjoyable things he likes to do for his birthday. He started out with bumpers and felt very proud the day he was able to bowl without them. In the past, he would aim for a score of 75 and over. There came a time when he would not be content with anything less than 100. Nowadays, his aim is to always beat me.
As the title suggests, he wins some, he loses some. Today was no exception. The first time he beat me, he took a picture of it and posted it. It is getting harder and harder though to hold my own against his determination. He is physically growing up so fast, he is now taller than I am and actually stronger. I am the first one cheering him on to bigger and better things.
His next target is his father, but today, he was content just to enjoy the time together. I hope it lasts a little while longer.
Yes, it's named Cavan's. Would you believe that I still got to bowl there in the late 90's since Jo-anne and Joy Mercado (my tennis gang mates) live in the area. It was still old and dilapidated and they still used the small balls. I don't know if it's still operational, though.
